2025 Year’s End Update

2025 has been a slow year, but the important part is that I am still working on the project. Instead of a 5 year development time it might be 6/7 (hoping future readers are blessed by not understanding this joke). Once again, using Bluesky as a micro blogging site instead of posting here gets way more engagement, so I’ll continue only using this site for major milestones.

Was I able to achieve the 2025 goals?

  • Get majority of game systems in the prototype (weather, dialogue, effects): Weather is tied to Niagara effects, so that’s 2 out of 3. There is a bare bones interaction system, but dialogue is not working.
  • Start animations in Krita: Yes! This took longer than expected because of saving enough for a proper drawing tablet.
  • Overall story, dialogue fleshed out: Partly. Overall story and structure is at a solid place, though I am flexible if it needs to be changed. The dialogue has a long way to go.
  • Level design: No.

2025 Other Achievements:

  • Game Design Document mostly fleshed out. It’s standing at 55 pages, not including notes or the script, and will continue to grow.
  • Narrowing down the art style.
  • Continuing to learn the Unreal Editor.
  • Depressed Developer trademark accepted.
  • Bluesky social media community is over 5.4K followers.
  • Update 3 of the prototype was released on itch.io.
  • Despite my laziness and social anxiety, I attended 2 local game development events and met some really cool people.

2026 Goals:

  1. Narrow down movement details and navigation moveset in a bare prototype level in order to…
  2. Start level designs.
  3. Expand combat moveset with place holder animations.

There won’t be an update here until 2026, so happy holidays and see you in the new year.
