There hasn’t been a blog update for a couple months because this project is getting exponentially greater attention on social media and a job takes up a lot of time. Am I making excuses for focusing on shit posting on Bluesky instead of working on the site? Perhaps, but having a community that celebrates your progress and madness is important for motivation. There are a lot of incredible creators out there who are a supportive source of inspiration.
Here’s a short summary of last year and a look to the future.
A lot happened in 2024:
- I decided to make a game! That’s fucking nuts.
- Depressed Developer LLC created.
- depresseddeveloper.org created. (somebody is squatting on the .com, but whatever)
- Depressed Developer was trademarked and recently approved.
- Bluesky social media community is up to 4K followers.
- A rough prototype was released on itch.io.
2025 goals:
- Get majority of game systems in the prototype (weather, dialogue, effects).
- Start animations in Krita.
- Overall story, dialogue fleshed out.
- Level design?
So this game making thing is going to take a long time, which was expected, but I was really hoping some secret shortcut would be uncovered along the way. 2025 is off to a slow start, but at least it’s progressing. Happy New Years and lets get through it with art and community.
